Good Kosher Wine for Passover 2008!

With Passover almost here, it's time to think about GOOD Kosher wine. And forget the Baron Herzogs and the Manischewitz-es.

Keep in mind that Mevushal wines, which have been flash pasteurized, can be handled and opened by Goyim and non-Kosher Jews, but frankly, wine that's been heated has been, well, mistreated.

So avoid Mevushal wines and try these:

Covenant Cabernet 2005 or 2006. From my friend Jeff Morgan, and Leslie Rudd of Rudd Vineyards, this is the best Kosher wine I have ever tasted. Not cheap at $85 plus but you'd pay as much for a non-Kosher Cab of this quality anyway. Seriously good stuff.

Red C 2006. Second label California Cabernet from the Covenant people, and more affordable at about $40 per.

Chateau Malmaison Moulis en Medoc. Solid Bordeaux that will appeal to anyone who drinks dry reds. I've just finished the last bottle from a case of the 2001, but several vintages may be available from good wine stores and online.

Domaine St. Benoit Chateauneuf du Pape Laureline 2005. Outstanding offering that's a combination of Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah - and the only Kosher Chateauneuf I know of.

Bartenura Prosecco Brut. A classic Italian Prosecco from the Veneto, a nice change from Champagne.

Ramon Cardova Rioja. 100% Tempranillo from old vines - it's got some nice spice and leather, although it may lack a bit in body. Great bargain, too.

Bartenura Moscato (semi-sweet/dessert). The ladies at the table will go for this.
